A Beautiful Thing

I remember last August I sat at my supper table with my laptop and decided to finally do something I have been wanting to do for many years. I sat there and I think I even prayed first and let the words go from my brain through my fingertips and dance across the keys and a beautiful thing began to happen…a story was forming.

I sat there day after day and wrote what was in my heart and soul. I connected with the characters and at times I felt anger and sadness, passion and laughter but what I found to be the best is that during the process of writing ( then revising ) I shed tears. My emotions can out and I was able to feel. It’s a lovely thing to be able to write and form something to effect you in that way.

Another beautiful thing I that I wrote about characters that faced tremendous odds in a small country town, my hometown where I grew up. A town where I went to elementary school, where I graduated High school, where I misbehaved :-), picked on my sisters, went fishing in the creek five miles from my house and where I also experienced not so good things at home. I grew up in this town holding my true self in, surrounded by walls that I felt I had to build to protect myself. Through this book I am able to let some of that out. I truly connected with the characters because I am them in some ways. A lot in one of them.

This book is a romance novel to put it simply but it’s also so much more than that. It’s Jamie in some ways, it’s about love, compassion, strength, hope, fear and overcoming extreme odds to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s about not letting closeminded people kill the inner you. It’s about LOVE. Pure and simple.

I look forward to the day this book is available next month…March, not only because it’s a dream come true for me, not only because I am putting myself out there in small ways and not because it’s something I love doing, although all of these are very important and mean something, but mainly because the people who take the time to read it will see how they do NOT have to hide from who they are. That in our society although we should be so much further than we are, there is still so much judgmental people out there trying to keep ones who love each other from marrying their soul mate just because they are of the same sex. Is this a fictional novel? Yes it is but it’s also so real in our world at the same time. This book is real and it’s a beautiful thing. šŸ™‚
